Magnesium for Babies - Why it's the Best Skincare Choice

As parents, we are always looking for the best and safest ways to take care of our babies. We want products that will keep their skin soft and healthy without any harsh chemicals or toxins. Magnesium is a great solution to this problem because it can help keep your baby's skin moisturised and nourished without irritating it. You might not think that magnesium would be something that you need to worry about when it comes to your baby, but it actually plays a vital role in their health. Let’s explore why magnesium is an excellent choice for baby skincare.

What is Magnesium?

Magnesium is a mineral found naturally in the body and it plays an important role in many of the body's functions, including helping to regulate blood sugar levels, regulate nerve impulses, and support a healthy immune system. It also helps the body absorb other essential nutrients like calcium, vitamin D, zinc, and potassium. But that’s not all—magnesium has some great benefits when used in baby skincare as well.

Skin Benefits of Magnesium

Choosing magnesium-based products for yourself and your baby can help keep skin hydrated and nourished while preventing redness, dryness, rashes, eczema, and other skin issues caused by harsh chemicals or fragrances found in traditional skincare products. Because magnesium helps with cell production and repair, it can also promote healthier skin cells faster than other conventional products. That means that the overall health of your baby’s skin will be better with regular use of magnesium-based skincare products!
Magnesium  is a mineral-rich supplement that plays an important role in promoting better sleep. It has a calming effect on the body and mind that can help you relax before bed. Magnesium chloride helps produce hormones including melatonin and serotonin, which are responsible for regulating our circadian rhythm and promote feelings of relaxation. Studies have found that magnesium deficiency can disrupt natural sleep cycles, leading to difficulty falling asleep or staying asleep.

What type of Magnesium should you look for on the label?

Not all magnesium is created equally. Magnesium Chloride is always our first preference. Magnesium chloride is a much better choice for skincare than magnesium sulphate due to its superior effects on skin health and safety.

For this next part, we need get a bit nerdy, think back to science class. Magnesium chloride is the ingredient you want to look for as it has higher clinical and pharmacological efficacy compared to magnesium sulphate, meaning that it is more effective in providing nourishment and hydration to the skin. This is because the absorbability of magnesium chloride is greater; its molecules are smaller and therefore can be broken down more easily in order to be absorbed into the body. This smaller molecular size also allows magnesium chloride to penetrate deeper into the layers of the epidermis, delivering nourishment even at a cellular level. Overall, these factors make magnesium chloride a much better choice for skincare than sulphate due its higher bioavailability, improved efficacy and safer effects on the skin.

The Baby Wash

$34.00

Bubbles | Giggles | Bedtime
Fragrance free. 300ml

Ingredients as gentle as you are with them. A purpose as important as they are to you. This ultra-delicate, bubbly hair and body cleanser is full of magnesium — a naturally occurring mineral for all skin types, including sensitive and eczema prone ones — magnesium calms while reducing redness and inflammation.

These bubbles continue to bubble, keeping little ones in the tub for longer, so heads on pillows can too.

Organic, containing ingredients like jojoba esters and crafted with care, The Baby Wash is part skin hydration, and part unconditional love.

Key Ingredients:

Jojoba Esters

For: Moisturising the scalp, reducing flaking, diminishing inflammation, and increasing hydration and skin smoothness.

Clinically proven to increase skin hydration and smoothness, keeping your bubba’s skin and scalp smooth and glossy, whilst simultaneously reducing moisture loss. Other than that, we’ll leave the pronunciation of jojoba to you.

Magnesium

For: Sleep assistance, irritability and restlessness.

A naturally occurring mineral for all skin types, including sensitive and eczema prone ones, magnesium supports a healthy skin barrier, and is said to calm while reducing redness and inflammation. And, it’s why our bubbles, bubble — so it stays on the skin longer for that goodness absorption every time.

Squalane

For: Ultimate Hydration and all skin types.

An exceptional hydrator, squalane can prevent the ongoing loss of hydration that impairs dermal suppleness. Not to be confused with squalene — small spelling difference, but bigger ‘what it is’ difference. Squalane is a saturated and stable hydrocarbon that is found naturally in the skin. In fact, babies in utero already make a version of squalane which helps protect their skin for the few hours postpartum.

Free from silicones, parabens, mineral oils, PEGs, sulphates (SLS, SLES), GMOs, petrolatum, synthetic fragrance or phenoxyethanol.

The Baby Lotion

$34.00

Soothe | Hydrate | Protect
A hint of chamomile. 180ml

As pure as they are, this lotion does for your baby’s skin what their smile does to you. Lightweight in nature, but heavy in impact — ingredients include jojoba, squalane and magnesium — this nourishing formula nurtures your baby’s skin microbiome to soothe, hydrate and soften skin. Jojoba is also a member of the anti’s: anti-inflammatory and antibacterial.

Organic, natural and crafted with care, The Baby Lotion is part prebiotics, and part unconditional love.

Formulated for babies, children and sensitive skin of all kinds.

Key Ingredients:

Chamomile

For: Promoting relaxation and encouraging patience.

An ultra soothing and calming essential oil, Roman chamomile aids hot, inflamed, sensitive and dry skin. Plus, its general effect is relaxing and balancing — something us parents could also do with (reminder: ask your partner for a massage using The Baby Lotion).

Jojoba Oil

For: Hydrating, calming and soothing eczema and dermatitis.

Often referred to as an oil, jojoba is technically a pure, luxurious liquid wax ester. Rich in vitamin E and minerals, its benefits are anti-inflammatory to antibacterial, with superb skin softening properties. With its rapid absorption, it’s particularly effective for dry and scaly scalps like cradle cap. Still working on that jojoba pronunciation.

Prebiotic

For: Digestive health and skin microbiota.

Extracted from chicory root, inulin acts as a prebiotic and feeds a select group of beneficial organisms. This, in turn, supports the skin’s microbiota, meaning that skin problems are prevented or recover faster — almost more potion than lotion.

Free from silicones, parabens, mineral oils, PEGs, sulphates (SLS, SLES), GMOs, petrolatum, synthetic fragrance or phenoxyethanol.
